If I was Alexander I would have repeated the same action he did with Puru.
Alexander defeated Puru in the war and asked him about what should he do with Puru.
Puru in spite of being defeated replied that a king should treat another king same way as he treats other kings.
Alexander was so happy listening to his reply that he freed Puru along with the won kingdom.
