Question:-

  • Zeroes of the polynomial  {x}^{2}  + 5x + 8are  \alpha and \beta
  • Find  \alpha  +  \beta

Solution:-

Given,

 {x}^{2}  + 5x + 8

We have,

 \alpha  +  \beta  =  \frac{ - b}{a}

Here,

a = 1 \: , \: b = 5 \: , \: c = 8

So,

 \alpha  +  \beta  =  \frac{ - (5)}{1}

 \alpha  +  \beta  =  - 5
