If the zinc metal is scratched of from iron , iron still does not rust . It is suppose to cause now its in direct contact with moist air .

Even when zinc layer scartched from the iron ,it protects iron from getting oxidized because it is more reactive than iron so zinc gets oxidized and thus protects iron from getting rust.
