Answer:

Explanation:

Maize diploid chromosomes number 20

So,10 each from Male (paternal) and Female(maternal) parents.

Recombination takes place at Four chromatids stage, means two maternal and two paternal chromatids ,this apply for each 10 pairs

P- P M-M (example of single pair)…replicated

P and M original and non sister chromatids (but homologous)

P and M replicated

P- P and M- M sister chromatids(but homologous)

Recombination takes place between P M ,but not between P- P and M- M

So, maximum recombination % doesn't cross 50%,since only two chromatids (non sister )are involved in crossing over and results recombination. (This applies for all each 10 pairs,in Maize)

If no recombination means all are linked genes.(only parental combination)

If recombination is 10% means ,remaining are linked. And so on.

Number of genes on each chromosomes varies depending on length of individual genes.

Linked genes number is not fixed for each species or each individuals within each species

Suppose if particular chromosomes has 10 linked genes, it need not be fixed in all individual, it can be altered by crossing with other individuals with in a species

So linked genes number is individual specific not species specific, moreover it varies in each individual at each crosses.

The total number of Linkage groups in an individual is equal to their total number of haploid sets of chromosomes.

In Maize there are 10 linkage groups, since 10 haploid chromosomes.

But it doesn't means maize has 10 linkages or linked genes.

Finally ,it is not possible to tell how many linkages or linked genes does maize has at particular individual, since you have not given individual maize cell .

But one can easy say's that Maize has 10 linkage groups, but not linkages or linked genes.
