If there are 12 teams in a basketball tournament and each team must play every other team in the eliminations, how many elimination games will there be?

Total elimination games will be 66.

We are given that each team plays each other in the elimination round.

Hence let's divide the team by numbers like Team 1, Team 2....Team 12.

We have that team 1 will play with all the rest of the teams ,hence the number of elimination matches for team 1 = 11.

Similarly team 2 will also play 11 matches with all the other teams.

However for team 2 this includes it's match with team 1.

Hence we will not count that match for team 2 hence it's match = 10.

=> Similarly we can count the total number of matches as:

11+10+9+8+...+1 = 66.

Hence the total number of elimination matches will be 66.
