if there are no intercellular spaces between the cells of epidermal layer how does exchange or secretion of materials takes place?​

It doesn't mean that there is no inter cellular space. Compared to other cell layers, it has very little space and it is, therefore, enough for it to do the normal process of cell like secretion etc.
