Take a magnetic compass and place it parallel to the magnet

The direction towards which thae arrow will point is north and the opposite side is south

If there is a no marking on magnet about South Pole and north pole then by just simply suspended freely in air we can get that which one is north pole and which one is South Pole as magnet always direct towards the north when suspended freely in air
