If there are no markings on a bar magnet, we can still find out that which pole is the north pole and which one is the south pole.

This can be done if we freely suspend a bar magnet from a string.

The magnet will automatically align it self in a north-south position, where, the north pole will face towards the geographical north of the earth and the south pole will point towards the geographical south of the earth.

This way, we can easily find out that which pole is the north pole and which one is the south pole.

and if it is on the north side of your house then it is the north pole and if it is on the south side of your house then it is the south pole of the bar magnet .In this way we can find north pole and south pole of a bar magnet though there are no markings in the magnet
