It takes 6 minutes for tank to fill if both taps are open

Solution:

Given that,

The first tap fills the tank in 10 minutes

The second tap takes 15 minutes to fill the tank

If both taps are open how much time would It take to fill the tank?

Work done by first tap in a minute = \frac{1}{10}

Work done by second tap in a minute = \frac{1}{15}

Therefore,

Work done by first and second tap in a minute = \frac{1}{10} + \frac{1}{15}

\rightarrow \frac{1}{10} + \frac{1}{15}\\\\\rightarrow \frac{25}{150}\\\\\rightarrow \frac{1}{6}

Therefore,

Time\ taken = \frac{1}{\frac{1}{6}}= 6

Thus, it takes 6 minutes for tank to fill if both taps are open
