When there is no salt content in sea water then most of the marine life like fishes will die of exosmosis.

The reason is the salt water fishes have a capacity to excrete salt from its body .

where as the fresh water fishes have the capacity to take in salt from water. So when salt water fish is kept in fresh water it starts excreting salt from its body even though there is salt content in the water,as a result the electrolytes level are decreased and there fore water starts moving out from fish body and die.

while when a fresh water fish is placed in salt water by its nature it starts taking salt in therefore electrolytes level increase and water moves into the fish body and it swells and die.

But there are few exceptions like salmon which gets adapted to both salt and fresh water

Salt is the basic nutrient which people take as

It provides taste to food

It is important in human beings for the secretion of thyroxine harmone by the proper activation of thyroid gland

If salt would not be there, it would effect humans and they will not be suffering from goitre and also will have major effect on fishes
