The Himalayas are the climatic divide of India. It means that due to the Himalayas the climate of India is affected in a major manner.
The cold masses of air coming from the Tibet region are blocked by them and hence we don't experience extreme winter cold winds in the northern and gangetic plains. And this also prevents Mid-India from dipping to very extreme temperatures.
The monsoon winds that move up from Kerala towards UP and Punjab and Uttrakhand are blocked by the Himalayas and all the rains are fed to India due to the orographic barriers. Hence, they optimize our monsoon by blocking the passing of the monsoon winds or else the winds would pass over to Tibet and China region.
hope it helps !!
