Given that,

  • if the square of hypotenuse of an isosceles right triangle is 200 cm²

To Find,

  • The Length of each of the side of the triangle

Formula Used,

  • Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²

Diagram,

\setlength{\unitlength}{1cm}\begin{picture}(6,5)\linethickness{.4mm}\put(1,1){\line(1,0){4.5}}\put(1,1){\line(0,1){3.5}}\qbezier(1,4.5)(1,4.5)(5.5,1)\put(.3,2.5){\large\bf a }\put(2.8,.3){\large\bf a}\put(1.02,1.02){\framebox(0.3,0.3)}\put(.7,4.8){\large\bf A}\put(.8,.3){\large\bf B}\put(5.8,.3){\large\bf C}\qbezier(4.5,1)(4.3,1.25)(4.6,1.7)\put(3.8,1.3){\large\bf $\Theta$}\end{picture}

Solution,

Now we know that,

  • The hypotenuse² is 200cm²

Which implies that ,

  • 200cm² = P² + B²

Since it is given that ,

  • The triangle is isosceles so the measure of its other two sides will be the same

So let's assume that,

  • The measure of the other two sides are x

According to the question,

→ 200cm² = x² + x²

→ 200cm² = 2x²

→ 200cm² / 2 = x²

→ 100cm² = x²

→ x = √ 100cm²

x = 10cm

Henceforth,

  • The measure of the other two sides is 10cm
