9

Let the number be ' x '

x - 3 = y

So result of the given equation is y. It is given that the result on dividing by 3 gives 2. This implies

y / 3 = 2

=> y = 2 * 3 = 6

So x - 3 = y which is 6

So x - 3 = 6

Transposing - 3 to the other side we get,

x = 6 + 3 = 9

Hence value of x is 9.

The number unknown in the question is 9
