Answer:

Let fathers age be x years and sons age be y years.

Then, as per the given statement form an equation

3y+x=60 ----- (1)

2x+y=80 ------ (2)

From equation (1)

3y=60−x

y=

(60−x)

 

Put the value of y in equation (2)

2x+

(60−x)

=80

6x+60−x=240

x=36

So, the fathers age is 36 years.
