Locomotion is only helpful when you can sense or perceive your surroundings. So, even if the plants developed the ability to walk it will be useless unless they can somehow sense their surroundings and the environment they are in.

Plants react to light, gravity, moisture, chemicals, temperature, oxygen and carbon-di-oxide concentrations, touch and sound. They respond by movement and morphology.

The major change will be collapse of the ecosystem.

If I remember what I have read in my childhood correctly then this is how the cycle is. Plants produce food by taking nutrients from soil, water and sunlight. Primary consumers (herbivores) eat plants. Secondary consumers (carnivores) eat primary consumers. Then the animals die their bodies decay and provide nutrients to the soil. And the cycle is complete. Now plants started to walk.

First change is that majority of herbivores will die. Millions and millions of animals like herds of buffaloes, deer, elephants and giraffes will die as they can’t adopt to this change. They are not used to their food running away from them. They don’t have the ability to hunt it down. Several creatures like birds and monkeys etc which depend on trees and plants will perish. They will take the first blow.

As the count of herbivores starts to fall gradually the count of the carnivores will fall as well. With their food is being depleted it’s their turn.

So, basically all of the animal kingdom will perish. Not just on land this will be scenario in aquatic eco-systems as well.

When it comes to humans the first problem is food shortage. No more agriculture. The world will be in an apocalypse. There is nothing to eat. The food storages we have can save us for days or months or may be even years. And then? There will be a lot of raids, pillaging, ransacking. Economies would collapse. Money would have no value. Want to live? Pick up a weapon. Search for plants and animals and find a way to kill and eat them or may be steal from others who have food. This is what will be going on people’s mind.

Over all it’s going to be bad.
