Let the age of son be x and age of father be y.

Given 2x + y = 56

          x + 2y = 82

   On solving (1) and (2), we get

         2x + y - 2x - 4y = 56 - 164

            -3y = -108

               y = 36.

Substitute y in any above equations, we get

 2x  + 36 = 56

 2x = 20

  x = 10

  The age of the father is 36 and the age of son is 10 years.

Hi !

Age of father =  x
Age of son = y

A.T.Q.,

x + 2y = 56              ----> (1)

Also,
2x + y = 82               ----> (2)

Multiplying eqn(1) with 2 :-

2(x + 2y = 56 )
2x + 4y = 112             ----> (3)

Solving equations (2) and (3), we get

 2x + 4y = 112
-2x + y = 82
-------------------
3y =  30

y = 10

2x  + y = 82
2x + (10) = 82

2x = 72
x = 36

Age of father =x = 36 years
Age of son =y = 10 years
