and child = Y

according to 1st condition the equation is as follow

2x+y = 32

according to 2nd condition the 2nd equation will be x+3Y = 36

or x= 36-3Y

put the x value in eq. 1st

2(36-3Y)+Y=32

72-6Y+Y = 32

5Y = 40

Y= 8

X=36-3y

X=36-24

X=12
