Solution,

Consider the smaller angle is \[x^\circ \].

\[\begin{array}{l}x^\circ  + \left( {x + 10} \right)^\circ  = 90^\circ \\ \Rightarrow 2x^\circ  + 10^\circ  = 90^\circ \\ \Rightarrow 2x^\circ  = 80^\circ \\ \Rightarrow x^\circ  = 40^\circ \end{array}\]

Hence the smaller angle is \[40^\circ \].
