The final outcomes (sum of numbers) should be greater than 9 so we have favour able events like (4+6) , (5+5),(5+6) ,(6+4) ,(6+5),(6+6)

And all outcomes are equal to (1,2),(1,3),(1,4),(1,5),(1,6),……like this (2,1),(2,2),(2,3)….further ..till (6,6) so total events=36

So probability of getting a sum greater than 9 is= 6/36=1/6 Ans.

I hope you will understand well.

Given :  Two dice are thrown simultaneously

To Find : the probability of getting the sum greater then 9

Solution:

Two dice are thrown simultaneously

Each dice has numbers 1 to 6

Hence total possible outcomes  = 6 * 6  = 36

getting the sum greater then 9

Sum = 10 , 11 , 12

(4 , 6) , ( 5 , 5) , ( 6 ,4 ) , (5 , 6) , ( 6 , 5) , ( 6 ,6)

There are 6 cases when sum is greater than 9

Hence Probability =  Favorable outcome / Total  possible outcomes

= 6/36

= 1/6

probability of getting the sum greater then 9  is  1/6
