if two dice are thrown,what is the probability of getting the sum of 3?

\huge{\boxed{\bold{Solution}}}

The sum of 3can big bought in the following ways

1+2,2+1

There for we need to find.

p(1 in 1and 2in the other)or p(2in the first die and 1 in the other)

Let translate this:

p(1 in first die and 2 in the other)

=(1/6)×(1/6)=1/36

p(2 in the first die and 1 in the other)

=(1/6)×(1/6)=1/36

Both this events are independent of each other they cannot occur together therefore.

p(1 in first die and 2 in the other)or p(2 in the first die and 1 in the first)

=p(1 in the first die and 2 in the other)+p(2 in the first die and 1 in the other)

=(1/36)+(1/36)=2/36=1/18.
