Magnitude of the resultant of the two forces (f/2 each) = [f2/4 + f2/4 + 2. (f2/4) cos 45°]½

= (f/2).[2+2/√2]½.

= 0.9238 f.

This is the magnitude of the third force which neutralizes the effect of the two forces.
