If two identical sphere having charge 16μC and -8μC are kept certain distance apart , then force between them is F

Let distance between charged sphere is d

Then, F = KqQ/d² = K × 16 × 10⁻⁶ × 8 × 10⁻⁶/d² [ attractive ]

F = 128K/d² × 10⁻¹²

d² =128K/F × 10⁻¹² -------(1)

Now, when both the identical sphere touched then charge on each sphere is average of intial charge of spheres.

e.g., Q = (16 -8)/2 = 4μC charge on each sphere ,

Now, force between them, F' = K(4 × 10⁻⁶)²/d²

From equation (1)

F' = 16K/(128/F) = F/8

Hence, force will be 1/8 times of F
