Let the fraction be a/b
If 2 is added to numerator
(a + 2)/b = 1/2
2a + 4 = b
2a - b = -4———(1)
If 1 is subtracted from numerator
a/(b - 1) = 1/3
3a = b - 1
3a - b = -1 ——-(2)
Subtract equation (2) from equation (1)
2a - b - 3a + b = -4 - (-1)
-a = -3
a = 3
Substitute a = 3 in equation (1)
2(3) - b = -4
b = 6 + 4
b = 10
Fraction is a/b = 3/10
