For any two positive integers(say a and b with a>b):
1. The HCF is either equal to or less than the number which is smaller (in this case- b). So HCF will be less than or equal to b; and hence it will be nearer to origin.
2. The LCM is either equal to or greater than the number which is greater (in this case- a). So the LCM will be greater than or equal to a; and hence it will be farther than origin.
