If two numbers are respectively, 25% and 40% less than the third number, what is the ratio of these two

Solution :-

Let us assume that, the third number is equal to 100x .

So,

→ First number = 25% less than the third number = 75% of third number = (75 * 100x)/100 = 75x

and,

→ Second number = 40% less than the third number = 60% of third number = (60 * 100x)/100 = 60x

then,

→ First number : Second number = 75x : 60x

→ First number : Second number = 5 : 4 (Ans.)
