Answer:

Mass of object, m=100kg; initial velocity, u=5ms

−1

; final velocity, v=8ms

−1

; time, t=6s

Initial momentum =mu=100×5=500Ns

Final momentum =mv=100×8=800Ns

Force exerted on the object

F=

t

mv−mu

800−500

Let the 2 objects be A and B respectively.

For object A;

  • Mass = 5 kg
  • Acceleration = 10 m/s²

For finding Force, apply Newton's second law of motion which states that:

   F = ma

⇒ F = 5 × 10

F = 50 N

∴ Force required for object A = 50 Newtons

For Object B:

  • Mass = 10 kg
  • Acceleration = 2 m/s²

Again, we apply Newton's Second law of motion as we had done for the first object.

   F = ma

⇒ F = 10 × 2

⇒ F = 20 N

∴ Force required for Object B = 20 Newtons

On comparing the force required by each of the objects, we observe that Object A requires more force than Object B.

Force for Object A > Force for Object B
