Given:

The two quartiles of n are 14.6 and 25.4 respectively

To find:

What is the standard deviation of the distribution

Solution:

From given, we have,

The two quartiles of n are 14.6 and 25.4 respectively

we use the direct formula:

From given, we have,

Q₁ = 14.6  and Q₃ = 25.4

Therefore,

QD = (Q₃ - Q₁) / 2

= (25.4 - 14.6) / 2

= 10.8 / 2

= 5.4

Thus,

Sd = (3 × Qd)/2 = (3 × 5.4)/2 = 16.2/2 = 8.1 ≈ 8

Therefore, the standard deviation of the distribution is 8.

Thus option (d) 8 is correct.
