Given :
- Two resistances R₁ = 2Ω and R₂ = 3Ω are connected in parallel
- Potential difference through the circuit , V = 12 V
To find :
- Current through the circuit , I = ?
Formulae :
- Equivalent resistance (R) of two resistors (R₁ and R₂) connected in parallel combination
1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂
- Relation between resistance (R) , potential difference (V) and current (I)
R = V / I
Solution :
Calculating equivalent resistance of parallel combination (R)
→ 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂
→ 1/R = 1/(2) + 1/(3)
→ 1/R = (3 + 2) / 6
→ 1/R = 5/6
→ R = 1.2 Ω
therefore, Equivalent resistance of circuit is 1.2 ohms.
Calculating total electric current in circuit (I)
→ R = V / I
→ 1.2 = 12 / I
→ I = 12 / 1.2
→ I = 10 A
Therefore,
The total current through the circuit is 10 Amperes.
