So in your triangle, the third side should be greater than ( 5 - 4 )= 1cm and smaller than ( 5+ 4) =9cm .

So the length of the third side will be between 1cm and 9cm.

Given : Two sides of a triangle are 4 cm and 5 cm

To Find : third  side  can  not be

Solution:

Sum of Two sides of a triangle is greater than third side

Let say third side is  x  cm   where x > 0  and x ∈ R

4 + 5  >  x

=> 9 > x

=> x  < 9

4 + x  > 5

=> x >  1

5 + x  > 4

True for all values of x

Hence   1 < x  < 9

third possible side can be any length between 1 and 9 cm

third side cannot less than equal to 1 cm  or greater than equal to 9 cm
