(a) air flows from bigger bubble to the smaller bubble till the sizes become equal

If two soap bubbles of different radii are connected by a tube, air flows from the smaller bubble to the bigger.

Explanation:

  • This because, a bubble has an inner pressure  \rho+\left(\frac{4 s}{r}\right) where s is the surface tension of the soap liquid, ρ is the atmospheric pressure and r is the radius of the bubble.
  • Also, tiny bubble has higher pressure compared to bigger bubble as smaller the bubble the smaller the radius is.
  • Hence, when two bubbles of different radii are connected by a tube, the air flows from smaller bubble to bigger bubble until all the tiny bubbles vanish.
