If two species overlap in their habitat use, how can both persist?

if both species overlap in their habitat they can't persist because for e.g. if a polar bear come into an area where there's very hot so it couldn't live as already the blubber keeps it warm and the hot temperature could kill it and if a dog go to the Iceland it will die from the freezing temperature
