If two squares are chosen at random on a chessboard, what is the probability that they have a side in common?

6 possibilities for 1st square

Corners, leftmost column, rightmost column, topmost row, bottomost row, others

Corners have 2 cells that can share a side

Other 4 have 3 cells that share a side

Others = 4cells

Answer (4*2 + 24*3+36*4)/(64*63)

=1/18
