HELLO MATE

It is included in its purpose or function that it will move the components at different speeds. The dyes which cover more surface area will travel more slowly. ... If two substances have similar chemical or physical properties they will behave the same as they travel through the medium and thus will not be separated.

Answer:

The Chromatography is an analytical technique which is generally used for separation individual components of a mixture of chemical substances. So that the individual components of mixture can be analyzed. Various types of chromatography such as ion-exchange chromatography, liquid chromatography, affinity chromatography, gas chromatography.

Principle of separation of various components of chromatography:

  • Differential affinities or strength of adhesion of the different components of the analyte towards mobile phase and  the stationary phase results the separation of the components.
  • Adsorption property  can be defined as how well a component of the mixture adheres to the stationary phase. The solubility is the property of a component which dissolves in the mobile phase.
  • If higher the adsorption of component to the stationary phase, that component will move slower through the column.
  • If higher the solubility in the mobile phase, that component will move faster through the column.
  • But if the both components or substances have the same speed through a medium. then we cannot use Chromatography to separate them.
