If two tables and three chairs together cost Rs 2000 whereas three tables and two chairs together cost Rs 2500, then the total cost of one table and five chairs is ?

Let the cost of a chair and a table be X and Y.

According to question,

2Y + 3X = 2000.....(1)

3Y + 2X = 2500.....(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2) we get,

5Y +5X = 4500

5(Y+X) = 4500

X+Y = 4500/5

X+Y = 900........(3)

On subtracting (1) from (2) , we get,

Y -X = 500.....(4)

Adding (3) and (4) , we get 2Y = 1400

Y = 1400/2

Y = 700

Subtracting (4) from (3) , we get 2X = 400

2X = 400

X = 400/2

X = 200.

Hence,

The cost of one table = 700

And,

The cost of three chairs = 3X = 3 × 200 = 600
