Let the no. be x

Then, 2x+(1/3*x²)=9

=> 2x+x²/3=9

=> 2x+x²=9*3

=> 2x+x=√27

=> 3x=√27

=> x=√27/3

=> x=√9

=> x=3 Ans.

Verification

2*3+(1/3*3²)

=2*3+(9/3)

=2*3+3

=6+3=9 Verified..

Hope this helps you

Have a great day

Answer:

Let the positive number be x

Two times the positive number will be 2x

& One-third of its square will be 1/3 * x²

 \frac{1}{3}  {x}^{2}  + 2x = 9 \\  \frac{1}{3}  {x}^{2}  + 2x - 9 = 0 \\ \frac{1}{3}  {x}^{2}    + 3x - x - 9 = 0 \\  \frac{1}{3} x(x  + 9) - 1(x + 9) = 0 \\ (x + 9)( \frac{1}{3} x - 1) = 0 \\  if x + 9 = 0 \\ x =  - 9 \\ if \:  \frac{1}{3} x - 1 = 0 \\  \frac{1}{3} x = 1 \\ x = 3

Since the x is positive number the value of x is 3
