|A|⇒—————400 km ——————≺= |B|

Speed= 120 kmph …………… Speed=80 kmph

Let

distance covered by train A = Sₐ

speed of train A = vₐ

distance covered by train B = Sᵢ

speed of train B = vᵢ

The time required for collision = t

Distance covered by train A

Sₐ = vₐ * t = 120 * t … A

Distance covered by train B

Sᵢ = vᵢ * t = 80 * t … B

Sₐ + Sᵢ = 400 =>

120 * t + 80 * t = 400

200 *t = 400

t = 2 hours

put t=2 in eq A and eq B

Sₐ = vₐ * t = 120 * 2 = 240 km

Sᵢ = vᵢ * t = 80 * 2 = 160 km

Train A will cover a distance of 240 km and train B, 160 km during the time period of 2 hours i.e 5–30 pm. At 5–30 pm both the trains will collide.
