The important thing here is that the centroid is the mean of the vertices.  So if the vertices are A, B, C, then the centroid G is at G = ( A + B + C ) / 3.

To get rid of the division, this is the same as 3G = A + B + C.

So here we have

3 × ( 1, 4 ) = ( 4, -3 )  +  ( -9, 7 )  +  ( x, y )

=> ( x, y ) = ( 3, 12 ) - ( 4, -3 ) - ( -9, 7 )

=> ( x, y ) = ( 3 - 4 + 9,  12 + 3 - 7 )

=> ( x, y ) = ( 8, 8 )
