Given : u + 5x = 6 and 3y + 7v = 20 and the correlation coefficient between x and y is 0.58

To Find : what  would be the correlation coefficient between u and v

Solution:

correlation coefficient between x and y is 0.58  

u + 5x = 6

=> u  = 6 - 5x

-5 is the factor    ( constant does not have any impact)

3y + 7v = 20

=> 7v   = -3y + 20

=> v = (-3/7)y + 20/7

(-3/7) is the factor  ( constant does not have any impact)

correlation coefficient between u and v =  0.58 * (-5)(-3/7) / √(-5)²√(-3/7)²

=  0.58

correlation coefficient between u and v = 0.58

option a is correct
