if u are given two samples,how do you distinguish which one is metal and which is non metal?

Give me scientific reason!​

Answer:

We know that metals have physical property of being shiny(lusture)

Non metals don't have this property.

Most metals react with oxygen in air to form oxide layer over them. This can hide their shine.

Polishing metals can remove the oxide layer and metals will become shiny again.

So if you are given two samples of metal and non metal you can identify metal as the one which shines after polishing and non metal as the one which doesn't shine.
