210.73 J mol⁻¹ is the Bond energy of I-Cl.

step by step explanation:

The Reaction between I₂ and Cl₂ is given by \frac{1}{2} I+\frac{1}{2}Cl₂⇄ICl

Therefore taking the enthalpy of formation values into consideration,

given ΔHICl=17.57 J/mol; ΔHCl=121.34 J/mol and ΔHI=106.96 J/m

The bond dissociation energy of ICl = ΔHCl+ΔHI-ΔHICl------(1)

⇒Bond energy of ICl= (121.34+106.96)-17.57 = 210.73 \frac{J}{mol}

since given enthalpy of formation is for single atoms in gaseous form not molecular enthalpy, we can directly substitute them in equation(1) and obtain this answer else we have to convert them into gaseous enthalpies from molecular enthalpies.
