Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

Assume that for first 5 seconds, a body accelerates from rest at 10 m/s2. After 5 seconds, its velocity will be 5 x 10 = 50 m/s.

Assume that after 5 seconds, the acceleration changes to 5 m/s2. Even then the velocity will increase, but at a slower rate than it increased for the first 5 seconds.
