If water molecules were linear instead of angular , would water be a good solvent as it is? Why or why not?

Water is a good solvent because it is polar. ... But if water molecules were linear, they would no longer remain polar because the individual dipole moments of O-H bond would oppose and cancel out each other. In such a case, water will not be a good solvent.
