If we apply gradual force on a brick with our foot it moves easily but if we kick it our foot gets hurt

When we kick the brick, the force applied acts over a short time and this is known as impact.

Impact is a very high force with a bigger magnitude.

When we compare it to the gradual force, we realise it is larger than the gradual force.

The foot gets hurt because :

According to Newton's third law of motion, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The impact force acts on the foot and hence the foot gets hurt.
