Answer:

The minimum atomic number of the element to fill 7p orbital should be 112.

If we want to completely fill 7p orbital, then atomic number should be 118.

Explanation:

In an element, the number of electrons = atomic number of the element

electrons fill up in the different orbitals according to their energies. electron fill up in lower energy orbitals first and then move on to higher energy orbitals.

According to the energy of different orbitals, the order of filling up of electrons is -

1s→2s→2p→3s→3p→4s→3d→4p→5s→4d→5p→6s→4f→5d→6p→7s→5f→6d→7p

Number of electrons in s orbital = 2

Number of electrons in p orbital = 6

Number of electrons in d orbital = 10

Number of electrons in f orbital = 14

For reaching 7p orbital, the orbitals till 6d should be completely filled and one extra electron should be there so that it enters into 7p orbital.

Hence, to fill 7p orbital, the minimum number of electrons needed are 113 i.e., the minimum atomic number of the element should be 113.

To fill the 7p orbital completely, the minimum atomic number should be 118.
