Meiosis is a form of reductive cell division and produces four haploid daughter cells from each mother cell which divides. This means if the diploid number of chromosomes is 12, then the number of chromosomes in each of the four cells will be 6. (haploid cells contain half the number of chromosomes as a diploid cell)
