Hypertonic solution: solution in which solute concentration is higher compared to water concentration.
(and also water flows from region of high water concentration to region of low water concentration)
Red blood cells when placed in hypertonic solution the water present in the cell moves out into the surrounding solution (due to Exosmosis) ; as a result the red blood cell shrinks.
