Hcl in our body will not harm our body because there is another substance known as mucus. Mucus protects the inner lining of the stomach. Which prevents our stomach from getting burnt like when we pour Hcl on our hand.

Hope this helps

Question:

If we pour HCl on our palm then it burns but in our abdomen we have HCl. This HCl does not cause any harm to abdomen, why?

Answer:

Indeed HCl can harm our abdomen when extra amount of it is produced in our stomach as in the case of acidity. Still small amount of HCl should harm our abdomen too but it does not harm because:

1. The acid produced in the stomach is very dilute so it has minimum effect on our stomach.

2. The inner wall of our abdomen/stomach has a coating of mucous which protects our abdomen from the acid produced in the abdomen.

3. HCl is produced in the abdomen only when food enters our body so most of the acid is utilized in the digestion.

Thanking You!
