If we put paper on the top of glass,full with water,when we invert the glass,water inside it not fall down .Why explain

Fill a cup of water and put a cardboard on top of it, then turn it upside-down, the water will not fall out. The explanation said this was because the atmosphere pressure was greater than the water pressure, which holds the water up.

vinitadubeymishra: I think so because sand is solid with tightly packed molecules and water is liquid with loose particle to move freely partially.
