newton's first law states that "am object remains in the state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change that state by an external unbalanced force"
according to this the ball released will continue to be in the state of motion unless forced to change that state by a unbalanced force(by holding it) hence it is not a violation of 1st law of newton
