On one hand, we would have much less trouble disposing of trash, since most organics are biodegradable, and metals are recyclable. Plastic is mostly recyclable too, of course, but once released to nature it takes ages to decompose.

On the other hand, much of our modern technology relies on durable, lightweight plastic materials to reduce weight and cost.

Plastic would be sorely missed. Automobiles in particular would become much heavier, resulting in sharply decreased gas mileage. Toys would again be made of metal, wood, cardboard, and cloth. The demand for wood and paper products would skyrocket, increasing the pressure on forest ecology.

I am not ambitious enough to think of more examples. Just understand that life in general and technology in particular are rife with trade-offs. Our goal is to balance the good and the bad the best we can.
